The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with CelcomDigi Berhad, focusing on fostering and developing future digital talents. This multi-year partnership aims to enhance Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Industrial XR/Metaverse solutions, benefiting both UNM students and CelcomDigi's internal operations.
The MoU was signed by Professor Sam Kingman, interim provost and CEO of UNM, with Joachim Rajaram, chief corporate affairs officer of CelcomDigi, in attendance. The signing was witnessed by Professor Ir Dr Mohd Shahir Liew, vice provost of Research and Knowledge Exchange at UNM, and Nik Naharudin Bin Mohd Nasir, director of Digital Talent and Entrepreneurship at Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
Spanning three years, this collaboration outlines several initiatives aimed at mutual benefit. CelcomDigi, having already seen benefits from its AI deployments, will enhance these solutions through this partnership.
Educationally, the partnership will provide UNM students with access to workshops, practical training, and corporate opportunities, including internships and work placements at CelcomDigi. Operationally, CelcomDigi will serve as UNM’s managed service partner, offering connectivity solutions like 4G/5G/Direct Internet Access, WiFi, and software-defined wide area network services for the university and its associated businesses.
Additionally, as one of UNM’s official corporate partners, CelcomDigi will explore reskilling and upskilling opportunities for its employees through micro-credential courses and part-time postgraduate degree programs offered by UNM. This collaboration aims to create a tech-driven educational experience for students while enhancing the operational processes and employee development within CelcomDigi.
