TP-Link Malaysia collaborated with Universiti Malaya (UM) in launching the first AI-powered WiFi 7 network at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology. This newly launched WiFi 7 is an improvement to top-notch connection, speed, and security offered to every student and staff within the institution, making UM the first public university in the country to adopt this cutting-edge WiFi 7 technology.
A memorandum of agreement signed marks the start of a deployment of this cutting-edge smart network, which is meant to dramatically increase the prospects for enhanced performance and security within the campus. It will fine-tune user demands and provide reliable internet access while proactively eliminating possible threats to security.
WiFi 7 will be implemented in strategic points within FCSIT, Lecture Hall 1, Lecture Hall 2, and the Networking teaching lab, with capacity to support more than 750 users. Hugo Cai, Regional Director of TP-Link Malaysia, commented, "We are excited to be partnering with UM to position cutting-edge technologies, such as WiFi 7 and AI solutions, on the pace of further development in Malaysia's digital landscape while cementing significant innovations in education".
This project will be led by Assoc Prof Dr Ang Tan Fong, supported by Prof Ir Dr Chan Chee Seng and Assoc Prof Dr Ling Teck Chaw. UM Chief Information Officer Prof Ts Dr Nor Badrul Anuar Juma'at is enthusiastic for more partnerships with TP-Link to further extend the reach of the network to the other corners of the university.
The three-year partnership through the said endeavor will see TP-Link provide equipment and technical support up to RM300,000. At the close of the project, all this equipment will be turned over to UM, which marks a new level of commitment toward UM's improving its digital capabilities. The AI-driven WiFi 7 network looks at upgrading internet access, security monitoring, network management, and analytics that will put UM at the cutting edge of educational innovation.
