The Blueprint to Maximize Indian-Australian Education and Research Partnerships

  • Higher education and research are at the centre of the Australia-India relationship, according to new research by the Australia India Institute. Mapping Higher Education Engagement Between Australia and India: A Compendium lays the foundation for universities and governments to continue working together to strengthen educational and research partnerships.

“The Australia and India relationship is reaching new heights, advanced by the power of education which binds both countries strategically and economically”, Universities Australia Chief Executive Catriona Jackson said. “Our success story is woven together by the rich education and research partnerships both countries share – partnerships which have increased fivefold between 2007 and 2021.

“We’ve worked closely with the Australia India Institute to help illustrate these long-standing partnerships, and I’m pleased to be in India with Education Minister Jason Clare as we grasp new opportunities and celebrate what both countries have achieved to date. “These are milestones worth celebrating. “Growing joint-degree and student mobility programs and research partnerships continue to benefit students and staff. At the same time, Australian universities are establishing and expanding their footprints in-country to help India deliver its ambition of educating 500 million people by 2035.

“Australia and India are united in maximising the opportunities before us to ensure both countries continue benefiting from highly skilled workforces and cutting-edge research and innovation”. The two-day India visit will conclude tomorrow following meetings with Indian Education Minister the Hon. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and leaders in higher education and research.
