SMU Academy and SuperCharger Ventures focus on AI's impact on education

  • SMU Academy, the professional training division of Singapore Management University, and SuperCharger Ventures, the world's largest Edtech-only accelerator, have announced the introduction of the 'Advanced Certificate in Innovative Educational Technologies' program. Developed collaboratively by SMU Academy and SuperCharger Ventures, and instructed by prominent academics and industry experts, this program directly addresses the transformative influence of AI in education. It aligns with Singapore's National AI Strategy and the National Edtech Masterplan 2030. Tailored for a diverse audience, including educators, technology enthusiasts, and organizational leaders, the Advanced Certificate program, scheduled to commence on March 18, 2024, aims to facilitate a shift in educational methodologies in Singapore, emphasizing the purposeful use of technology in learning and teaching.

In a swiftly changing landscape where educational institutions globally are embracing AI for teaching and learning, it is imperative for educators to comprehend the technology and acquire AI skills. The program aims to facilitate a deeper understanding of AI among educators, crucial for navigating the evolving educational landscape. By offering six modules covering AI and Edtech fundamentals, practical applications of AI tools in education, and the creation of customized Edtech solutions, the curriculum supports greater customization of learning for students. Moreover, it seeks to enhance teachers' professional practice by augmenting their knowledge and capabilities in integrating AI into teaching. To bridge the current skills gap, the program provides insights from experts and leaders in education globally, including those from Australia, Europe, and North America.

Jack Lim, Executive Director of SMU Academy, expressed, "This program underscores our dedication not only to adapt to the changing educational landscape but also to actively shape it. We aim to empower educators in Singapore with contemporary tools and collaborate with them to lead pioneering approaches in learning and teaching through the integration of AI and Edtech." Alessandro Di Lullo, Co-Founder of SuperCharger Ventures, commented, "This partnership with SMU Academy represents a significant milestone in our mission to promote innovation in education. We believe this program will be transformative for professionals aiming to make a substantial impact in the education sector by harnessing the potential of EdTech and AI technologies."
