HBFS Robotics, the team from the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest, proudly represented Romania at the RobotChallenge competition in China, where they secured a total of five medals. The Romanian students dominated the Line Follower category, winning all three top spots (1st, 2nd, and 3rd places), and also achieved 1st and 2nd places in the Nano Sumo category.
HBFS Robotics excelled in the Line Follower competition, sweeping the podium with gold, silver, and bronze medals. The challenge required navigating a small-scale Formula 1-like track with the goal of achieving the fastest time.
At the Nano Sumo competition, which involves the confrontation between 2 miniature autonomous robots with the purpose of eliminating the opponent from the ring, the HBFS Robotics team ranked first and second. The Thai team occupied the third place. "For us, HBFS Robotics represents a commitment to performance in a field that is full of challenges but which is increasingly making its mark on our daily lives", said team member Diana Baicu.
The 21st edition of RobotChallenge, a prestigious international robotics competition, attracted over 5,000 participants and more than 30,000 robotics enthusiasts from 31 countries. The event was held at the University of Science and Technology in Beijing, China.
HarderBetterFasterStronger Robotics, commonly known as HBFS Robotics, is a mini-robotics team that has made a name for itself in both national and international specialized competitions since its inception in 2014. The team has amassed over 100 international awards from the world's premier robotics contests. Currently based at the PRECIS Research Center, HBFS Robotics consists of students and faculty from the Faculty of Automation and Computers and the Department of Automation and Industrial Informatics, all united by their passion for advancing robotics.
Two team members, Mihai Crăciunescu and Diana Baicu, are currently serving as university assistants at the Faculty of Automation and Computers. Since 2023, Mihaela Popescu and Remus Comeagă, who are now master's students at the same faculty, have joined the team. They are guided by university lecturer Ștefan Mocanu.
