On the Day of Knowledge and Students, marking the start of the new academic year, UNICEF in Turkmenistan, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, inaugurated a new robotics club at Secondary School No. 1 in Arkadag.
The newly established club aims to inspire students by engaging them in hands-on learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). Designed to accommodate 8-12 students at a time, the club is set to become a model for other schools in the region.
Alexandru Nartea, UNICEF Deputy Representative in Turkmenistan, highlighted the significance of the initiative: “The launch of the Robotics Club represents a crucial step in equipping young minds with essential future skills. By introducing STEAM education, we are fostering a generation that is innovative, confident, and prepared for future challenges.”
The Turkmenistan Ministry of Education acknowledges the rising importance of STEAM education and is actively supporting the creation of robotics clubs in schools nationwide, driven by the enthusiasm of students, parents, and educators.
UNICEF’s commitment to STEAM education in Europe and Central Asia includes supporting the development of innovation and learning cultures through initiatives like this robotics club. As noted in a UNICEF press release, the focus on STEAM education enhances self-discipline and teamwork and also improves time management, language skills, and self-esteem.
