Penang's AI Hub Aims to Enroll 3,000 Participants in Tech Education Drive

  • The Penang Artificial Intelligence (AI) Education Hub has the potential to empower local talent to spearhead AI technology advancements, positioning Malaysia as a regional leader in the field. According to Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, the ministry aims to involve 3,000 participants in the nation’s inaugural AI Education Hub by 2025.

He stressed that the Science, Technology, and Innovation Ministry (MOSTI) has a responsibility to facilitate the transition towards harnessing AI's transformative potential by ensuring a sufficient supply of skilled professionals to meet the increasing demand in the job market. With the rapid advancement of technology, it is crucial for us to equip our younger generation with the necessary knowledge and skills. Therefore, the AI Education Hub plays an important role as a catalyst for the development of local talent.

“Through the facilities provided at this hub, including AI Trainer, learning kits such as CocoPi, Quarky and EDU PICO AI Kit, as well as AI tools like Intel Geti AI, I’m confident that we can deliver high-quality education and training to students and educators”, he said.

He made these remarks during his speech at the launch of the Penang AI Education Hub at Tech Dome Penang, Komtar, earlier today. Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo was also in attendance. Chang noted that the hub's creation aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's emphasis on talent development to capitalize on the rapid advancements in AI technology, thereby propelling the nation's economic growth.

He added that the AI technology revolution is anticipated to reshape business practices, government operations, and community development. Therefore, Chang expressed hope that the Penang AI Education Hub could be extended to other states throughout Malaysia. The hub is the outcome of a collaboration between MOSTI and the Penang state government, backed by 13 leading organizations forming the AI Education Consortium, with Intel serving as the hub's Technical Advisor.
