New Arab Index for Artificial Intelligence in Universities Introduced

  • The University of Dubai and the Artificial Intelligence Journalism for Research and Forecasting (AIJRF) have jointly unveiled the Arab Index for Artificial Intelligence in Universities (AIU), marking a pioneering initiative globally. This index serves to monitor and evaluate the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies within the realms of humanities and theoretical sciences across Arab universities. Comprising six principal indicators and 18 sub-indices, the AIU encompasses facets such as educational curricula, faculty composition, smart laboratory infrastructure, student competencies, and scientific research output.

Dr. Eesa Al Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, underscored the significance of the AIU in advancing the incorporation of AI technologies in higher education. He emphasized the necessity for Arab universities to align with cutting-edge technological tools and solutions, citing notable examples within the UAE. Dr. Al Bastaki stressed that the AIU aims to elevate Arab universities' capabilities in adapting to evolving technological landscapes and fostering a conducive environment for academic growth.

Dr. Mohamed Abdulzaher, President of AIJRF, the organization behind the index's conception and execution, outlined the primary objectives of the AIU. He highlighted its role in incentivizing Arab higher education institutions to embrace AI technologies across various educational facets, emphasizing their relevance in humanities and theoretical sciences. Dr. Abdulzaher emphasized that integrating AI into educational processes equips both faculty and students with essential skills required for contemporary job markets.

In essence, the AIU serves as a catalyst for enhancing educational standards across Arab universities by encouraging the adoption of AI technologies. It aims to equip faculty and students alike with the necessary skills to navigate the increasingly tech-driven academic and professional landscapes, thereby ensuring the region's competitiveness in the global arena.
