MSNIM Spearheads Hybrid International Conference on AI in Business and Management

  • The Manel Srinivas Nayak Institute of Management (MSNIM), in partnership with INTI International University, Malaysia, and Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), hosted a hybrid international conference titled 'Adoption of Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges in Business and Management' at their campus in Bondel. The event welcomed 178 attendees, comprising faculty, research scholars, and students, and featured submissions of 60 papers from six states and four countries, including the UAE, Malaysia, and the USA. The proceedings were compiled into a CD that was also released during the conference.

    The conference was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp. Dr. Sandeep Shenoy, professor and HOD, Department of Commerce, MAHE, was the chief guest, and Prof Wong Ling Shing from INTI International University was the guest of honor. Manel Annappa Nayak, president of the Women’s National Education Society (WNES), presided.

    Dr Shenoy discussed the differences between natural and artificial intelligence and their implications for business, stating that AI will create job opportunities over the next decade despite potential challenges like data security risks. Prof Wong Ling Shing highlighted AI's role in driving efficiency. Manel Annappa Nayak emphasized AI's potential to automate tasks and enhance efficiency while raising ethical, job security, and privacy concerns.

    Dr Molly S Chaudhuri, institute director, welcomed the gathering. Assistant professors Sathvika Shetty, Sanath Bhandarkar, and Nanditha Sunil introduced the dignitaries. Dr Shilpi Saha, the conference convener, provided an overview, and Dr Reema Agnes Frank delivered the vote of thanks. Assistant professor Aditi Kamath served as the master of ceremonies.

    Keynote speakers included Dr. Ankitha Shetty from MAHE and Dr. Cheng Kai Wah from INTI International University. Dr. Shetty emphasized the integration of AI in education, highlighting virtual teaching assistants and predictive analytics. Dr. Cheng Kai Wah addressed AI's potential in risk management and enhancing customer experience while also discussing challenges such as skills gaps and ethical considerations. Dr. Rohini Rao from MIT, Manipal, moderated an industry panel featuring Ritu Grover (Khaitan & Co), Padma Bhamidipati (Infosys), Ashish Tendulkar (Google), and Rajesh Dhillon (Acies Innovation). The panel explored AI's impact across various aspects of life and its evolving role as a transformative tool.

    During the valedictory program, Sankarasubbu Arunachalam, Senior Principal Technology Architect and Head of Architecture Service at Infosys, discussed how AI enhances consumer experiences through personalization, business process enhancements, and predictive modeling. Ajith Kamath, Chairman of the CII Mangalore chapter and governing council member of WNES presided over the event and underscored the importance of embracing technological advancements.

    Dr. Reema Agnes Frank, Assistant Professor, extended a warm welcome to the attendees. Assistant Professor Sanath Bhandarkar introduced the dignitaries, Dr. Shilpi Saha presented the conference report, and Assistant Professor Nanditha Sunil announced the awards. Assistant Professor Sathvika Shetty conveyed the vote of thanks, and Assistant Professor Aditi Kamath served as the master of ceremonies.
