MoEYS Inaugurates 48 ICT Labs to Elevate Cambodia's Education

  • All 48 ICT Labs across Cambodia's four provinces were showcased online, marking a milestone in the country's education transformation, according to Excellency Nath Bunroeun, Secretary of State. He emphasized the need to prepare the future generation for Cambodia's vision of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050, especially in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution where proficiency in ICT is essential.

Recognizing the transformative impact of digital technology on economic and social development, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS), and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) jointly established the 48 ICT Labs as part of their collaborative project for ICT Capacity Building in Lower Secondary Education in Cambodia (2021-2026).

Ms. Choi Moonjung, Country Director of KOICA, expressed Korea's support for Cambodia's Pentagonal Strategy and Education Reform Strategy, highlighting the role of ICT in overcoming the limitations of traditional education and fostering 21st Century Skills.

The inauguration ceremony also featured the unveiling of nine new textbooks for pre-teachers, a first for lower secondary school pre-teachers in the field of ICT. Developed in alignment with the MoEYS-KOICA curriculum, these textbooks cover a range of topics from the basics, such as Introduction to Computer and Digital Literacy Foundation, to advanced areas like Database, Data Communication and Computer Network, Python Programming, and Artificial Intelligence Programming. Additionally, they include teaching methods related to Informatics Education, Educational Multimedia, and STEM Education based on ICT.

Given Korea's prominence in ICT technology, it is undeniable that it serves as an excellent educational hub for ICT Education. The 15 individuals graduating with Master's Degrees in Korea are seen as seeds for future progress. The Secretary of State expresses anticipation for collaborative efforts with KOICA and the people of Korea to propel Education Reform forward, providing Cambodian youth with inspiration and motivation to emerge as the next generation of leaders.
