Maxis Partners with UTAR to Develop 5G Solutions for Healthcare and Education

  • In a groundbreaking collaboration, Maxis, Malaysia's integrated telecommunications provider, has teamed up with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) to develop 5G solutions aimed at transforming healthcare and education. Announced last Thursday, the partnership combines Maxis’ advanced network infrastructure with UTAR’s educational expertise to explore innovative opportunities in these critical sectors.

Maxis will leverage its cutting-edge 5G network to jointly develop solutions that enhance healthcare and education, while UTAR will contribute its strong academic foundation to ensure the solutions meet real-world needs. The partnership will also explore areas such as cybersecurity, green technology, and smart campus initiatives, tapping into the full potential of Maxis' network infrastructure.

In healthcare, the focus will be on 5G-enabled innovations like telesurgery, remote consultations, and real-time health monitoring. These solutions could revolutionize healthcare delivery by facilitating remote medical procedures and improving patient care through real-time data sharing.

In education, the collaboration aims to enhance learning experiences through immersive technologies such as augmented reality (AR). By integrating AR with 5G, UTAR students could participate in remote lectures while experiencing interactive and multimedia-rich content. This technological integration promises to enrich the learning environment, making it more dynamic and accessible.

Ir. Prof. Dr. Ewe Hong Tat, UTAR President, emphasized that this partnership aligns with the university’s goal to foster research and innovation that addresses pressing needs in healthcare and education. He noted that by combining academic expertise and industry capabilities, they hope to create transformative solutions that will advance both fields.

Prateek Pashine, Maxis’ Chief Enterprise Business Officer, also highlighted the importance of future-ready solutions in these sectors. He expressed enthusiasm about enabling 5G-powered solutions to make healthcare delivery and educational environments more personalized, dynamic, and accessible.

This collaboration builds on Maxis Business’ previous initiatives to drive 5G adoption in Malaysia. Maxis has a long-standing relationship with UTAR, having provided high-speed internet services to the university's Sungai Long and Kampar campuses since 2019. Through this partnership, Maxis continues to demonstrate its commitment to being the leading digital business partner, offering end-to-end connectivity solutions across various sectors in Malaysia.
