IIT-Madras practices virtual reality to deliver education to one hundred towns in UP

  • Students in courses 6 through 8 will attend lessons online in Hindi while utilizing virtual reality to study; each idea in science and math will be taught via short 3D movies and interactive sessions. Students in 100 villages in the Varanasi district will be receiving instruction from IIT-Madras' Pravartak Technologies. Students in classes 6 through 8 will take virtual reality-based lessons online in Hindi. The institution has joined with Vidya Shakti, an online education and skill-building project of Open Mentor Trust, a CSR project of Softsmith Infotech Pvt Ltd. The intent is to close the knowledge hole that the COVID-19 epidemic has created among rural pupils. The foundations of science, math, and language will be taught to students. Each scientific and math idea is taught via short 3D films that include hands-on activities. The center for technological innovation within the institution is called Pravartak Technological Foundation, and the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems of the Department of Science and Technology funds the Section 8 firm.

Director of IIT-M V. Kamakoti stated that the institute had been inspired to broaden its scope by the success of rural interaction centers (RIC) established in Tamil Nadu. A STEM instructor is required to bring three or four VR devices to each lesson as part of the project. After a brief explanation of a concept, the students are instructed to watch the VR movies and experience the material in small groups. After then, while the movie is playing, the instructor quizzes the pupils. Students share their experiences, which improves their ability to respond, communicate, and engage.

    P. Nagarajan, the managing trustee of Open Mentor Trust, claimed that the virtual reality kits have greatly enhanced the atmosphere in classrooms since they enable students to visualize their lessons.
