IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi launches BTech Programs to drive Digital Agendas

  • The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Abu Dhabi, the first international extension of the renowned IIT Delhi, has introduced its inaugural Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programs. These programs are designed to prepare undergraduate students to address the increasing demands in essential areas such as energy and digitalization.

The initial BTech offerings are in Energy Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. These programs aim to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to confront energy challenges, shape the future digital landscape, and develop software applications that enhance various industries, including analytics, finance, cryptography, and information technology.

The BTech in Energy Engineering offers a variety of engineering specializations, catering to diverse interests with an emphasis on sustainability. This program addresses current issues in energy production and management, preparing students to contribute to sustainable solutions. On the other hand, the BTech in Computer Science and Engineering integrates theoretical and practical skills, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. This program aims to develop students' proficiency in abstraction, computational thinking, and problem-solving techniques, which are crucial for navigating the complexities of today’s digital world.

Dr. Ahmed Sultan Alshoaibi, Acting Executive Director of the Higher Education Sector at the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), highlighted the significant impact of technology and engineering on the future economy. He stated, "Given the critical role of technology and engineering in shaping the future economy, our undergraduate programs are geared towards driving substantial change in the UAE and beyond."

Dr. Alshoaibi emphasized the goal of building a strong technological education framework to address the UAE’s digital skills gaps and accelerate the transition towards a knowledge-based economy. He added, "Through this approach, we strive to equip the future workforce with the necessary skills to tackle and help solve complex challenges, leading the way towards a smarter, more resilient world.
