Honeywell has unveiled the establishment of a new Centre of Excellence in Singapore, designed to pilot and implement AI and machine learning technologies to support decarbonisation efforts across Southeast Asia.
This collaborative initiative with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) will focus on assisting building owners and operators in improving energy monitoring, management, and optimisation within their facilities. While initially targeting Singapore’s data centres, healthcare, and education sectors, the project aims to expand to other Southeast Asian nations and industries in the future.
"Buildings represent a significant opportunity for carbon reduction, particularly when owners can effectively monitor and optimise energy use to manage their environmental impact," said Nigel Brockett, President of Honeywell Asia Pacific. "With the integration of new AI-based technologies and access to our Centre of Excellence, building managers across Singapore can now be equipped with real-time data and automation capabilities to help them curb emissions in alignment with the carbon-reduction goals set out in the Singapore Green Plan".
The Centre of Excellence will utilise the Honeywell Forge Internet of Things (IoT) platform, a predictive maintenance, and energy-management software solution. This platform aims to provide building decision-makers with enhanced insights into energy management, optimisation, and predictive analytics that inform maintenance needs.
According to the Building and Construction Authority, buildings contribute to more than 20 percent of Singapore's carbon emissions. By establishing the Centre of Excellence, Honeywell seeks to collaborate with Singapore's building owners and operators, deploying its solutions to support the country's ambition of reducing commercial building emissions. This effort aligns with the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and the aspiration to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
The Centre of Excellence in Singapore is expected to commence operations in 2025 and will initially implement building automation technologies through pilot programs with local stakeholders in sectors such as healthcare, data centres, and education.
In 2026, Honeywell plans to extend the services of the Centre to other Southeast Asian countries, customising solutions to fit each nation's sustainable building objectives.
Lim Tse Yong, Senior Vice President and Head of Mobility and Industrial Solutions at EDB, commented: "EDB welcomes Honeywell's decision to establish its Centre of Excellence to support the decarbonization efforts for buildings. Given Singapore's focus on environmental sustainability and strengths as an innovation hub, companies can foster partnerships with our built environment and research ecosystems to pilot and deploy sustainable building solutions. We look forward to the impactful solutions this Centre will develop for Singapore and the wider region".
The establishment of the Centre of Excellence reflects Honeywell's strategic emphasis on automation, in line with broader industry trends. The partnership with the EDB highlights Honeywell's dedication to aligning its solutions with key megatrends, especially in automation.
