Experts at CanvasCon Explore Future of Education in the Age of Generative AI

  • Instructure, the top learning ecosystem provider and creator of Canvas LMS, is hosting its second annual edtech conference in the Philippines. CanvasCon will unite educators, edtech administrators, and education leaders on September 6, 2024, at the Grand Hyatt Manila. The event will feature discussions on educational trends, emerging technology opportunities, and challenges, with a focus on generative AI, enhancing teacher efficiency, and improving accessibility.

The event will spotlight Professor Martin Bean CBE, CEO of The Bean Centre and a renowned leader in digital education. With a notable career that includes serving as Vice-Chancellor of RMIT University and The Open University, as well as General Manager of Microsoft’s global Education Products Group, Bean will offer his expertise on transformative trends that are reshaping education. He will discuss how institutions can leverage innovation and disruption to develop more engaging and sustainable learning experiences.

Ryan Lufkin, Vice President for Global Academic Strategy at Instructure, will return to the Philippines as a keynote speaker. Building on his insightful talk on ‘AI with Boundaries’ at last year’s event, this year, he will tackle the evolving role of AI and what the future of education holds. “We are excited about how educational institutions in the Philippines are adopting a technology-enriched learning approach and being proactive in facing the challenges that emerging technologies present to education”, said Harrison Kelly, Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Instructure. “We are thrilled to open a space for the exchange of ideas and learning, which can inspire local institutions and the entire region as well”.

Educators, administrators, and thought leaders from leading universities in the Philippines, including De La Salle University and Holy Angel University, will present innovative teaching practices and collaborative solutions. They will explore current trends and challenges in integrating technology into their curricula and emphasize the significant benefits it offers for teaching and learning experiences.

The conference will also address the specific needs of Filipino students, with a focus on improving digital learning accessibility, effective use of generative AI, and skills-based education. A panel featuring representatives from the University of the East and Ateneo de Manila University will discuss strategies to meet these needs. Additionally, Instructure will showcase its latest AI-driven innovations, including Intelligent Insights—a new AI and analytics tool designed to enhance efficiency for administrators and educators.

Other sessions will cover themes including personalized learning, faculty development, and data-driven decision-making, aiming to contribute to ongoing discussions about technology’s impact on education. “Embracing technology in education isn’t just about keeping pace with innovation. It is about unlocking new potentials for teaching and learning that were previously unimaginable”, Kelly said.
