BlackBerry Limited and the SANS Institute have joined forces in Malaysia to provide cybersecurity training through the upcoming BlackBerry Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE) in Kuala Lumpur. The partnership aims to enhance Malaysia's cybersecurity capabilities, focusing on crucial areas like forensics and incident response. The inaugural training, "SEC504: Hacker Tools, Techniques, and Incident Handling," is open for registration from March 11 to 16.
This collaboration with SANS is a significant step in BlackBerry's cybersecurity agreement with the Malaysian Government, announced during the APEC Summit in San Francisco in November 2023. Alongside deploying BlackBerry cybersecurity solutions, a world-class CCoE is set to open in the first half of 2024. The goal is to assist Malaysia in educating, training, and upskilling cyber professionals, contributing to the growth of the cybersecurity ecosystem.
Matthias Chia from SANS Institute highlighted the importance of continuous learning and innovation in building cyber-resilience. The partnership with BlackBerry in Malaysia allows them to offer globally accredited training programs, benefiting cyber workforces and those aspiring to enter the field.
In addition to SANS programs, BlackBerry will introduce its curriculum at the new CCoE. Collaborations with Malaysian universities and institutions will offer diverse courses, certifications, and programs to develop skilled cybersecurity professionals in Malaysia and the wider Indo-Pacific region.
John Dimitropoulos, Senior Vice President of Strategy at BlackBerry Cybersecurity, emphasized BlackBerry's nearly 40 years of experience in safeguarding global governments from cyber threats. The growing demand for cyber skills, especially in areas like Machine Learning and AI, led to the announcement that SANS Institute's training courses would be available through the BlackBerry Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in Malaysia. The shared goal is to establish a globally competitive skills and learning ecosystem in Malaysia and the Indo-Pacific region.
