BIREN and Huawei Team Up for Cutting-Edge Education Workshop

  • Representatives including Heads of IT, department heads, and network engineers from 39 universities, as well as members from the National Research and Education Networks of Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh, along with the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), convened for a two-day workshop titled "Fortifying the Future: Constructing a Secure and Intelligent Campus" held at Long Beach Hotel in Cox’s Bazar. This workshop, organized by BdREN (Bangladesh Research and Education Network) and Huawei in collaboration with Smart Technologies (BD) Ltd., aimed to accelerate the advancement of Smart Education in alignment with the vision of Smart Bangladesh 2041.

    Victor Lapian, Network CTO and Principal Architect at Huawei APAC led various sessions covering a spectrum of topics, including Trends and transformation in Digital Education, Smart University Transformation in the Asia Pacific region, Rational Technology for upgrading Campus Networks to Smart Campus Networks, Data Communication Solutions, and cutting-edge technologies such as WiFi 7, SDN, and AI-based solutions in a Technical Workshop.

    During the workshop, esteemed participants obtained valuable insights into the latest trends in smart campuses, digital transformation, and the innovative technologies developed by Huawei. The objective of the workshop was to empower university representatives to utilize this knowledge to transition their campuses into smart campuses. Additionally, attendees gained an understanding of the technological influence on university teaching methods, which has the potential to significantly transform the education sector and contribute to the government's vision of a Smart Bangladesh.

    Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Chairman (Additional Charge), University Grants Commission and Vice-Chairperson, BdREN was the Chief Guest and Dr. Sultan Mahmud Bhuiyan, Director (IMCT), University Grants Commission was the Special Guest of the workshop, Mr. Allen Liu, Vice President and MD, Enterprise Business Group, Huawei South Asia; Mohammad Tawrit, CEO, BdREN; Md. Zahirul Islam, Managing Director, Smart Technologies BD LTD and other distinguished officials from Huawei, BdREN & Smart were also in attendance.

    Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, said “In Smart Bangladesh; education, especially tertiary level education, will play very important role. University Grants Commission of Bangladesh has huge responsibility to elevate these education systems to a level so that the students can overcome the existing and looming challenges. To address those issues, BdREN has been formed as a trust to bring about Digital Transformation in the higher education sector. It is really appreciated that companies like Huawei and Smart are coming forward and working in collaboration with BdREN to organize this workshop which will facilitate and expedite the targeted digital transformation in the higher education community. Furthermore, it will be helpful to generate deep insights and ideas among the engineers and policymakers to attain our coveted objectives”.

    Dr. Sultan Mahmud Bhuiyan said “In embracing the digital technology in higher education landscape, UGC’s unwavering commitment to framing conducive policies will continue.
