ADEK Enrolls 2,400 Students in AI Summer Programs' Prompt Engineering Bootcamp

  • The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), in partnership with 42 Abu Dhabi, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), and Majalis Abu Dhabi, has launched a series of AI Summer Programs for 2,400 students in Abu Dhabi. These programs, designed for students in grades 9 through 12 from public, private, and charter schools, aim to inspire the next generation to lead the transformation of industries through innovative artificial intelligence technologies.

These programmes offer an understanding of next-generation AI, covering the fundamentals of generative AI, real-life applications focusing on ethics, new AI concept development, and career path exploration. His Excellency Mubarak Hamad Al Mheiri, Undersecretary at the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, said, "We are committed to preparing a generation ready for the evolving AI landscape. The AI Summer Programs will empower young minds to drive meaningful global change. By partnering with world-leading institutions like 42 Abu Dhabi and MBZUAI, we ensure Abu Dhabi's youth receive best-in-class AI training".

Additionally, in collaboration with 42 Abu Dhabi, the Generative AI and Prompt Engineering Bootcamps will offer students in grades 9-12 hands-on AI learning experiences designed to enhance their problem-solving skills. Participants will also have the opportunity to work with peers to develop solutions. The bootcamps will be available in two formats over four consecutive weeks to accommodate various learning preferences.

A full day bootcamp, held in six schools across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, will provide insights and practical skills in Generative AI and Prompt Engineering. This includes focusing on advanced techniques, such as fine-tuning language models with specific prompts to optimize output quality and relevance. Students will participate in three training sessions per day using hands-on experience and beginner-friendly AI tools.

Alternatively, a two-hour session, organized in partnership with Majalis Abu Dhabi and held at 28 locations across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Al Dhafra Region, provides a customized learning experience for UAE Nationals. These sessions are designed to enhance understanding through discussions on AI fundamentals, explore real-life applications, and involve students in interactive group activities.

Simultaneously, a five-day summer program in partnership with MBZUAI, designed for students in grade 11 and above, will offer insights into various applications of AI, such as film production, generative AI (GenAI), responsible AI, and a sustainability research project. The workshops will be conducted by MBZUAI’s esteemed faculty, alumni, students, and staff.

ADEK is also collaborating with MBZUAI to prepare four UAE Nationals for the inaugural International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI). This competition is aimed at high school students with an interest in AI and seeks to inspire and challenge young minds to explore AI’s potential, nurturing the next generation of AI pioneers and problem solvers. To support this initiative, two MBZUAI students have been assigned as mentors to guide the team, ensuring they are well-prepared for the IOAI, which will be held from August 9-15 in Bulgaria.
