Indeed Unveils Top AI Skills Sought by Singapore Employers

  • Indeed, the prominent global recruitment and matching platform released insights on the top skills sought after for AI roles in Singapore. According to Indeed, the most desired skills include proficiency in machine learning (ML) and Python programming. Additionally, recruiters are keen on candidates with expertise in PyTorch, C++, and Java.

According to Indeed's findings, 61% of generative AI positions in Singapore emphasize proficiency in "machine learning," while more than half (54%) specifically require Python skills. Python is highly esteemed for its adaptability in AI and machine learning applications. Additionally, PyTorch and C++ are sought after, mentioned in 24% and 23% of job postings, respectively. Other valuable skills include deep learning (19%), along with programming languages such as Java (18%), C (13%), SQL (12%), Spark (11%), and Linux (10%).

Callam Pickering, Senior Economist at Indeed APAC, said, “Singapore has rapidly established itself as a global leader on GenAI, adopting these tools faster than their global peers. As AI becomes crucial across industries, there’s a growing need for these skills. This data helps recruiters target specific skills and helps job seekers stay competitive”.

There has been a significant surge in interest in AI careers in recent years, evidenced by a nearly 150% increase in searches for AI jobs on Indeed from March 2018 to March 2023. Singapore is positioning itself as an AI hub, with plans for a $1 billion investment by the government to enhance AI capabilities.

“Singaporean businesses are facing a shortage of talent, with intense competition driven by AI”, Pickering added. “Recruiters need to prioritize hiring for AI skills to keep up with the demand and ensure they don’t fall behind in leveraging Singapore’s AI growth”.
