Yunnan Governor Seeks Stronger Ties with Bangladesh in Health, Education

  • Yunnan Province Visiting Governor Wang Yubo made three recommendations for deepening relations between Bangladesh and China, pointing out that President Xi Jinping has been paying close attention to the development of Yunnan Province and has issued a series of significant instructions on its development direction and priorities.

    We strongly believe that through the joint efforts of both parties, the road of amicable cooperation between Yunnan and Bangladesh will become ever wider, making ever greater contributions to the construction of high-quality Belt and Road", he says, extending warm invitations to their friends from Bangladesh to visit Yunnan, where they can experience 'Yunnan: a many-splendored life' and share 'opportunities called Yunnan'.

    Yubo was addressing the inaugural ceremony of Yunnan Provincial Education and Medical Exhibition at the Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium, Dhaka University. Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum was present as the chief guest. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen and DU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan, among others, addressed the function.

    On his three proposals, the Governor stated, first, join hands to further the modernisation of education. "Second, join hands to further the construction of a common community for health and wellness. Thirdly, let us join hands to further mutually beneficial cooperation in tourism", he added.

    Governor Yubu stated that Yunnan boasts over 90 universities, which provide 15 programmes of languages including languages of South and Southeast Asian countries with which China has diplomatic ties, and one of the most important overseas study destinations for students from South Asia.

    Bangladesh has rich experience of higher education, vocational education and well-known institutions such as the University of Dhaka, he added. "We wholeheartedly welcome more Bangladeshi students to study here in Yunnan and invite more teachers to come for academic exchange here", says the Governor.

    Mexican candidate for UNESCO greets Prof Yunus, praises Bangladesh's inclusive dev Yunnan, jointly with China's first-class hospitals, has set up national regional medical centers specializing in cardiovascular, oncology, respiratory and other aspects, he added.

    We hope to further strengthen cooperation on disease prevention, maternal and child healthcare, geriatric care, as well as developing public welfare projects," he said. 700 million tourists visited the province in 2024, with more than 50% of them domestic tourists and more than 6 million international tourists to Yunnan. Almost 4 million tourists spent more than 15 days in Yunnan.

    He stated Yunnan will actively streamline visa and customs procedures, increase transportation and payment convenience, and enhance overall inbound tourism services so that Bangladeshi tourists can find their journey easy, comfortable and enjoyable. Ambassador Yao stated Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus made a visit to China and reached a wide consensus with President Xi Jinping.

    It conveys a firm political message that our mutual backing is rock-solid and solid", he declared, describing it as an indication that the Bangladesh-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership has now moved on to a new and higher platform.

    "During the new stage, we will make every effort to implement the outcomes of the visit", says the Ambassador, adding that Governor Wang's visit the first one of high level since the Chief Adviser's visit demonstrates China's strong commitment to action. He stated that they will take this as an opportunity, continue to promote our political mutual trust and further deepen personnel and people-to-people exchanges between our two countries.

    In the new phase, the Ambassador indicated, they will still prioritize people-oriented strategy in our cooperation, unlocking growth potential and creating new highlights.Public health and education are vital for the development of the country and happiness of people, he stated, adding that they are also their priorities of cooperation in the next phase.
