Yeungnam University and Kumoh National University of Technology have come together to advance the "Glocal University 30" initiative, an endeavor supported by the Ministry of Education aimed at bolstering the competitiveness of 30 local universities. Selected universities will benefit from substantial funding amounting to 100 billion won over a five-year period.
In a recent agreement signed at Yeungnam University, Yeungnam University and Kumoh National University of Technology pledged joint efforts to propel the "Glocal University 30" project forward. This collaboration entails the development of a framework to foster regional strategic industries, the creation of advanced education platforms leveraging artificial intelligence, the operation of collaborative research and education programs bridging high-tech industries and academia, the establishment of networks to facilitate youth employment, and the execution of projects with both regional and global impacts.
Kwak Ho-sang, President of Kumoh University of Technology, highlighted the groundbreaking nature of this collaboration between the nationally acclaimed engineering-focused Kumoh University of Technology and Yeungnam University, renowned as a top-tier private institution in non-metropolitan regions. He emphasized their joint commitment to breaking down barriers and leveraging their collective strengths to pioneer innovative approaches in the digital era, fostering university innovation amidst regional and institutional challenges.
Similarly, Choi Oe-chul, President of Yeungnam University, reiterated the significance of the partnership, envisioning the cultivation of glocal talents capable of spearheading regional industries and driving innovation. He expressed confidence in utilizing the combined strengths and competitiveness of both universities to establish a successful model for glocal universities through the implementation of the Glocal University 30 project.
