Vietnam and Japan Boost Education and Training Cooperation

  • Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang hosted a reception in Hanoi for Takebe Tsutomu, the Special Advisor to the Japan-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance. During the meeting, he emphasized the Vietnamese Government's commitment to addressing challenges in education and training projects between the two nations. Tsutomu expressed profound sadness over the passing of Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, and fondly recalled his positive interactions with the late leader in both Vietnam and Japan.

He took this occasion to thank the Vietnamese Government for its support for cooperation programmes and projects between the two nations, including the Vietnam-Japan University, Japan-Vietnam Festival, Vietnam Festival in Hokkaido, and Hokkaido Festival in Ha Long, among others.

He stated that the Vietnam-Japan University is envisioned to become both an academic and practical training institution to meet the high-quality human resource needs of both nations. He expressed hope that the Vietnamese Government will support the university in organizing a ceremony to celebrate its 10th anniversary in October and collaborate with Japan to make the university a new symbol of the Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the world.

Quang expressed gratitude to the Japanese special advisor for his condolences and sympathy regarding the passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. He highlighted that under the leadership of the Party chief, Vietnam-Japan relations have grown significantly and comprehensively. This progress includes the elevation of their ties to the Extensive Strategic Partnership in 2014 and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023.

He spoke highly of the efforts, enthusiasm and great contributions by his Japanese guest to the bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and locality-to-locality cooperation, that enhance the friendship and mutual understanding between the two sides.

The Deputy Prime Minister also commended the initiative to send graduates from the Vietnam-Japan University to Japan for apprenticeship programs. He noted that this helps students enhance their knowledge while also aiding Japan in addressing its labor shortages. Quang expressed hope that the Japanese Government, businesses, and organizations will continue to support the university and its graduates, thereby enhancing the institution’s training quality and appeal.
