University of the Philippines Open University offers 24 free online courses

  • The UP Open University is reopening several of its free courses, and enrollment is open to all. In 2024, the University of the Philippines Open University has expanded by reopening its free courses, accessible for online learning at the participants' convenience. A calendar of activities has been released, outlining the free courses available each month. In February, participants have the opportunity to engage in basic gender sensitivity training. In March, the offerings include free courses on business analytics and frameworks, as well as introductions to open and distance e-learning (ODeL). Additional complimentary courses cover topics such as principles of graphic design, legal instruments for the protection of children, social entrepreneurship, and scriptwriting for educational video materials.

    In addition to the previously mentioned courses, UP Open University provides a variety of courses accessible on their official website, UPOU Massive Open and Distance e-Learning. Enrollment in the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) program is open to everyone through the official website, and it holds accreditation from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Admission to the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) is not mandatory for students, and both high school graduates and individuals outside the Philippines can participate in the free courses. Each course has a duration of three to eight weeks, requiring three hours of study per week, totaling 16 hours of training.

    Throughout the program's duration, students will encounter diverse modes of teaching and learning, including videos, podcasts, and electronic print materials. Quizzes and assignments will be incorporated to augment their skills and knowledge. Upon completion, students can anticipate receiving a certificate within about two weeks, which is also suitable for inclusion in resumes. The introduction of MOOCs by UP Open University signifies another stride in the university's commitment to embrace its value and expertise in distance learning, showcasing its pioneering role in online teaching and learning.
