Sri Lanka's Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC) has renewed its collaboration with the University of Jaffna to further develop the next generation of professionals in the capital markets sector. The program started in 2009 and has been a valuable connection between academia and the capital markets industry in terms of undergraduate students' academic and professional advancement.
The renewed Memorandum of Understanding solidifies this relationship for the long term, ensuring that students can continue to access a more holistic platform that fosters their academic growth while training them to enter the career world of the financial sector. In a statement, the SEC emphasized that this initiative is meant to inspire future professionals who are forward-thinking and innovative enough to continue growing Sri Lanka's capital market.
Under the renewed MoU, undergraduates will enjoy a variety of benefits. Among them are academic awards in terms of gold medals and cash prizes for outstanding performance in capital market-related courses and research grants in the field. Additionally, the MoU will offer industry exposure through internships and practical learning experiences facilitated by the SEC to enable students to gain hands-on knowledge and experience in the capital markets.
The signing of the renewed MoU was witnessed by key representatives from both University of Jaffna and SEC. In line with its expanded scope, the SEC also showed its intentions to extend identical partnerships with other national-level universities in Sri Lanka while creating more professional opportunities and driving innovation for student communities across the country. Through these endeavours, the SEC strives to support Sri Lanka's capital market by adequately trained and competent professionals to lead future generations in various fields.
