University of Glasgow Signs MoU with Arab American University in Palestine

  • The University of Glasgow and the Arab American University Palestine (AAUP) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering medical collaboration. This agreement entails various initiatives, including the opportunity for AAUP students to partake in clinical practice experiences in the UK by studying at Glasgow University.

    Rachel Sandison, Deputy Vice Chancellor of External Engagement and Vice Principal of External Relations at the University of Glasgow, along with Professor Mohammad Asia, President Assistant for Medical Faculties and Dean of the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences at AAUP, signed the agreement. Situated in the city of Jenin in the Palestinian West Bank, AAUP is establishing connections with several UK universities to foster scientific and medical cooperation.

    Rachel Sandison said: “We are very pleased to sign this Memorandum of Understanding with the Arab American University Palestine. This will create important opportunities for delivering specialist academic teaching and training as well as student exchange between the two institutions. As an international university, Glasgow has a diverse network of global partnerships, which provide meaningful opportunities for our students, colleagues and partners to enrich their learning, teaching and research.”

    Professor Matthew Walters, Head of the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing at the University of Glasgow, said, "The University of Glasgow’s Medical School is proud to be working in partnership with the Arab American University Palestine to enrich the educational experiences of students in Glasgow and Jenin. In the first phase of this collaboration we will be welcoming a group of students to Glasgow for a medical summer school which will provide the experience of UK medical education and clinical practice. We look forward to hosting them and to further developing our partnership in the future”.

    Professor Mohammad Asia, Vice-President of AAUP, said, “It is with great honor that I sign this agreement with one of the most prestigious universities in the world". Dr. Bara Asfour, Vice President for Financial and Administrative Affairs at AAUP,  expressed his gratitude by saying, “Thank you for solidifying this agreement between our universities; we are looking forward to working together for the benefit of our institutions”.

    Dr Malik Zaben, Dean of AAUP Medical School, said, “We are excited about the opportunities this agreement brings for faculty and student exchange, research collaboration and other many other areas of mutual interest”.
