UNAIR AGE Partners with CityU to Provide Scholarships and Programs for Students

  • Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE), in collaboration with City University of Hong Kong (CityU), hosted a significant information session and guest lecture at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). The event, held in Kahuripan Room 301, Management Building, UNAIR MERR-C Campus, was aimed at providing students with insights into scholarship opportunities and advanced academic programs available at CityU.

The session featured a distinguished lecture by Professor Chee Yoon Yue, Dean of Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies and Chair Professor of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at CityU. Attended by UNAIR students from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, the event focused on opportunities for studying in Hong Kong and exploring fields related to technology and start-ups.

Professor Yue's lecture, titled “Fostering Innovation and Entrepreneurship through University-Industry Partnership”, highlighted the programs at CityU and emphasized the role of university-industry collaborations in advancing innovation within start-ups, technology sectors, and broader industries.

Introducing CityU, Prof. Yue noted that it is a leading institution in Asia, ranked 17th in the 2024 Asia University Rankings and 62nd globally by QS World University Rankings. He encouraged UNAIR students to consider pursuing their master’s or doctoral studies at CityU, which offers a range of programs across its nine colleges and 28 departments.

The CityU Dean also highlighted various scholarship opportunities available to international students, including the LPDP scholarship, and assured that all courses are conducted in English. “We hope Airlangga students will consider our master’s or PhD programs. Graduates with strong academic records can benefit from LPDP scholarships. All programs are conducted in English,” Prof. Yue stated.

Addressing the importance of start-ups and industry careers, Prof. Yue urged students to deepen their knowledge to thrive in the competitive global market. He explained that succeeding in technology and innovation requires a comprehensive understanding of both market demands and user needs, underscoring the importance of robust research skills.

“A good university adapts to industry trends by nurturing excellent researchers. Good researchers emerge from good teachers, and good teachers stem from quality research,” Prof. Yue said, illustrating the vital link between high-quality education and impactful research. He concluded that generating knowledge is essential for societal advancement, “When you create knowledge, you create value for the world”.

The collaboration between UNAIR AGE and CityU reflects a commitment to broadening educational and professional opportunities for students, reinforcing the importance of global academic partnerships in fostering innovation and career development.
