The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education has officially established a Climate and Environmental Education Policy Promotion Task Force to improve environmental education and foster stronger collaboration with the local community.
On the 12th, the Office of Education hosted the first operational meeting of the Ulsan Climate and Environmental Education Policy Promotion Task Force in its policy conference room, where key initiatives like expanding experiential environmental education and creating instructional materials were discussed.
Innovating Environmental Education – Enhancing Community-Based Experiential Learning
The newly established policy task force is responsible for developing environmental education policies, coordinating initiatives, creating instructional materials, identifying experiential learning sites, and fostering public-private collaboration in environmental education.
Led by Choi Eun-ho, principal of Yeompo Elementary School, the task force consists of 13 members, including six environmental education experts and six environmental education teachers. Over the next two years, the team will work on refining Ulsan’s environmental education framework.
The task force will collaborate with the Ulsan Climate Crisis Response Education Center and the Wildflower Learning Center to identify environmental experience sites, which will be integrated into school curricula.
Additionally, an ecological resource map will be developed for use in educational settings, and localized environmental education instructional materials will be created and distributed.
"Driving Meaningful Change" – Laying the Foundation for Future Environmental Education
An official from the Ulsan Office of Education emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "This meeting marks a crucial step in shaping the future of environmental education in Ulsan".
"By collaborating with the local community, we aim to provide students with hands-on experiences that deepen their understanding of environmental issues and empower them to take action", the official added.
As the Ulsan Office of Education progresses with its climate and environmental education policies, there is increasing curiosity about how these initiatives will reshape the educational landscape.
