UAE to Host UNESCO World Conference on Culture and Arts Education

  • Abu Dhabi is set to host the UNESCO World Conference on Culture and Arts Education from February 13-15, 2024. Organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the event will convene over 190 education and culture ministers worldwide at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The conference aims to establish a global framework for culture and arts education, building upon previous UNESCO conferences in 2006 and 2010. Delegates will exchange experiences and formulate recommendations to integrate culture into education through cohesive policies and creative practices.

    The UAE's Minister of Culture, Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, expressed a commitment to fostering knowledge exchange and cross-cultural understanding. Emphasizing the importance of facilitating essential dialogues and supporting the cultural and arts education scene, he highlighted strong collaboration with UNESCO. He expressed confidence that the conference outcomes would result in the implementation of a comprehensive framework for cultural and arts education, promoting widespread adoption.

    Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi and Co-Chair of the UNESCO World Conference on Culture and Arts Education, highlighted the significance of organizing this impactful event. Emphasizing a commitment to fostering global dialogue in culture and arts education, he stressed the alignment with the conference ideals. Al Mubarak expressed pride in leveraging programs and partnerships to promote lifelong education and skill-building in arts and culture with equitable access. Anticipating the Framework for Culture and Arts Education as a guiding reference, he emphasized confidence in the collaboration with UNESCO, expecting the conference outcomes to lead to widespread adoption by member states in their countries.
