Tripura Santiniketan Medical College has entered the Asia Book of Records for securing the largest number of state-wide admissions in the first academic year of any newly formed medical college in 48 Asian countries. The honor comes after it was already noted in the India Book of Records, solidifying its standing as an emerging force in medical education.
The record-breaking achievement was formally recognized at a grand ceremony organised on Friday morning on the college campus. Asia Book of Records representative and renowned mask artist Sanjay Bholadhir handed over the certificate to Ram Prasad Paul, Deputy Speaker, Tripura Legislative Assembly, and Dr. Sanjay Nath, Principal, college. The function had a number of dignitaries in attendance, including former State Health Director Dr. Satya Ranjan Debbarma, senior journalist Subal Kumar Dey, Editor Nabendu Bhattacharjee, and administrative head Saugata Pit.
During the 2024-25 academic year, the college had students from as many as 21 Indian states, 47 of them from Tripura alone. The others hailed from varied states and union territories like West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi. The college has been appreciated for becoming a 'mini Bharatvarsha', with India's cultural and geographic diversity finding its reflection on its campus.
Sanjay Bholadhir commented, "On the whole Asian continent, we have never seen such mass reaction in the first year of any medical college. Tripura Santiniketan Medical College has definitely raised the new bar".
Emphasizing the rapid transformation of the institution, Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul said, "Just two years ago, this place was an untouched jungle. Today, it's an internationally recognized institution. This is not a small achievement it's a miracle born of hard work and vision".
College President Dr. Malay Pit voiced his pride and gratitude, saying, "This award belongs not only to the college but to the people of Tripura and the whole nation. It demonstrates our shared passion for educational excellence".
He also stressed that the award would ignite their desire to become a prime destination for medical education in India and Asia.
The ceremony concluded with cultural performances by students, commemorating the traditions of the 21 represented states, signifying unity in diversity and a joint journey towards academic success.
