Tohoku University, Japan, has now been signed with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by IIT Bombay to establish the IIT Bombay-Tohoku University Joint Academic & Research Programme. This collaboration shall initiate collaborative Master's and PhD programs that shall introduce students to dual mentorship and access to advanced research facilities while exposing them to educational frameworks in both institutions.
The program is intended to start as a double-degree emphasis in research but with future possibilities of developing into a joint institute, subject to the approval of the concerned academies and government authorities. Both the universities are keen on launching the initiative as early as possible to work toward solving global challenges through academic and research excellence.
This move further strengthens the long-term relationship between IIT Bombay and Tohoku University, promoting innovation and international collaboration in higher education and research.
The signing ceremony witnessed participation from senior delegations of both universities. The MoU was exchanged by Dr Sharad Kumar Saraf, Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT Bombay, and Professor Shireesh B Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, with Professor Teiji Tominaga, President of Tohoku University.
This agreement marks a new milestone in the 25-year partnership between the two institutions.
