A welcoming ceremony was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, for Taiwan students participating in an internship program organized by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Guangzhou government. This year, the program has attracted 120 university students, doubling the number from last year.
The interns, hailing from 23 universities in Taiwan and 10 universities in mainland China, will be placed in 50 companies and institutions across Guangzhou. Lin Hsin-tzu, a recent international business graduate from Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, will be working at an electronics company.
At the ceremony launching the yearly program, Lin expressed her hopes of gaining practical experience during the four-week internship. She praised the program as an excellent platform to connect with peers from Taiwan. Tseng Cheng-yu, who studied international trade at Taiwan's Chung Yuan Christian University, will work in a bank's marketing department.
"We know that the mainland has been developing very well in recent years and want to see for ourselves and look for opportunities", Tseng said. "I interned at a bank in Taiwan. The mainland market is large, and I want to learn about the business scope of a bank here".
Since its inception in 2018, the Guangzhou internship program has served over 2,000 students from more than 120 universities in Taiwan, according to the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Guangzhou government.
