Taiwan Establishes Talent Hub in The Philippines to Attract Students

  • The Philippines has introduced a new international talent hub aimed at enticing global students to pursue their education in Taiwan. President Lee Tien-shang of Kun Shan University, the primary partner university in the Philippines, expressed the desire to strengthen international recruitment efforts and foster collaboration between industry and academia for mutual benefits. The launch event in Makati City was attended by representatives from eight Taiwanese universities and five Filipino universities.

The Political Deputy Minister of Education, Mon-Chi Lio, delivered a video speech during the event, expressing his optimism about fostering bilateral collaboration among universities through the newly established base. He also emphasized the goal of attracting more Filipino students to pursue their education in Taiwan. Kun Shan University outlined the primary objectives of the base, including facilitating international industry education, promoting academic exchanges, and supporting Chinese language learning. The inauguration of the base follows last year's announcement by the Cabinet to invest NT$5.2 billion (US$165.8 million) over five years to incentivize overseas students to study and remain in Taiwan. The government aims to establish ten overseas talent bases and streamline permanent residency measures, with the aim of retaining 210,000 international students in Taiwan by 2030.

Kun Shan University, located in Yongkang District, Tainan, Taiwan, is a private institution accredited by ACCSB. The university offers a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate programs across fields such as engineering, business, design, health sciences, and humanities. Kun Shan University places a strong emphasis on creating a comfortable educational environment by integrating aspects like school transportation, campus landscape, department offices, regular classrooms, and laboratories. The college buildings have been renovated to accommodate five distinct colleges: The College of Engineering, The College of Business and Management, The College of Humanities, The College of Creative Media, and The College of Information and Technology. The university has a total student population of approximately 14,000.
