Taiwan dominates World Genius Convention Awards

  • Taiwan emerged triumphant at the 38th World Genius Convention and Education Expo in Tokyo, clinching the top spot among participating nations and securing numerous accolades. Out of the 63 entries submitted by Taiwan, an impressive 29 garnered gold medals, while 23 received silver medals, and six were honored with special awards. This year's event boasted over 120 entries from 12 countries, underscoring its international significance.

One standout invention hailed from three eighth graders, Chao Tso-fu, Chao Tso-hang, and Chen Chia-chun, who devised the innovative "Double zip compressed bin." Addressing the issue of overflowing bins in schools and public areas, their creation features a foot pedal for easy opening and an automatic garbage compression mechanism, ensuring more efficient waste disposal.

Similarly, a team of six junior-high students from Kuang Jen Catholic High School developed a groundbreaking bike helmet. This helmet allows cyclists to signal their intended direction by simply winking one eye, thanks to an infrared sensor positioned near the wearer's eyelids. Additionally, blinking both eyes simultaneously activates a red light on the helmet, indicating a slowdown, enhancing safety on the road.

Moreover, a group of teachers and students from National Formosa University earned recognition for their creation of a "coffee ground lubricant." Utilizing a microwave extraction method, they successfully extracted green lubricating oil from coffee grounds, showcasing an innovative approach to sustainable resource utilization.

These remarkable inventions underscore Taiwan's prowess in innovation and commitment to addressing real-world challenges through creative solutions. From enhancing waste management to improving road safety and promoting sustainable practices, these achievements exemplify the ingenuity and dedication of Taiwan's inventors and innovators on the global stage.
