The 2025 Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference began on March 24 in Delhi, India, with Taiwan's delegation playing a key role in promoting international academic cooperation. Organized by the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET), the delegation is led by FICHET Chairperson Prof. Cheng-Chih Wu and includes 44 representatives from 15 Taiwanese universities. The focus of the delegation is to highlight Taiwan’s strengths as a global technology hub and attract more international talent to study in Taiwan.
On the opening day, APAIE President Prof. Venky Shankararaman and Executive Director Ms. Louise Kinnaird visited the Taiwan delegation. They met with Chairperson Wu and took part in a group photo, marking the event’s significance. Chairperson Wu emphasized FICHET's role in fostering international academic collaboration, particularly in technology sectors such as semiconductors, ICT, and biotechnology. Taiwan seeks to build synergies between India’s strong talent pool and Taiwan’s technological capabilities, focusing on industry-academia partnerships and academic exchanges.
As part of ongoing efforts to deepen educational cooperation between Taiwan and India, nearly 70 university leaders from both countries will participate in the ‘2025 Taiwan-India Higher Education Leaders Forum’ on March 26 at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi. The forum will focus on semiconductor technology and sustainable development goals (SDGs), continuing the collaboration established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2010 between FICHET and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
Taiwan's Ministry of Education reported that over 100,000 students from the Asia-Pacific region studied in Taiwan in 2024, with more than 2,500 coming from India each year. Taiwan continues to promote international student exchanges and talent mobility, aiming to attract more students and strengthen multilateral collaborations to address industry needs.
