Taiwan Boosts Education Access to Develop High-Level Professionals

  • In response to Taiwan's increasing need for mid to high-ranking professionals in core industries, the Education Ministry and the National Development Council have collaborated to implement the International Industrial Talents Education Special Program (INTENSE) to establish a pipeline of qualified talent to aid in the development of Taiwanese industries.

INTENSE calls on Taiwanese universities to design degree programs based on the demands of key industry sectors, encourage more foreign students, and boost incentives for retaining students in Taiwan after graduation.

INTENSE Director Jywe Wen-yuh stated the program drew at least 80 Vietnamese students in its inaugural year. Beginning this fall semester, 26 Taiwanese universities will provide specialized programs under the program with the goal of enrolling over 800 international students.

Speaking at an admissions briefing in Hanoi on Monday, Taiwan's Representative to Vietnam Liu Shih-chung reported that close to 40,000 Vietnamese students studied in Taiwan as of the end of 2024. He stated this shows the good academic cooperation between Taiwanese and Vietnamese institutions.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology Vice President Huynh Dang Chinh appreciated the INTENSE program for having precise training objectives of nurturing talent, matching Vietnam's pressing demand for quality professionals. Taiwan is not just a strategic partner with good academic conditions but also a desirable place to study due to its close industry association, he adds.
