Sukhu Flags Off Teachers' Delegation to Singapore for Professional Development

  • Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched a delegation of 70 teachers on an educational tour to Singapore, under a government program meant to give state educators global exposure and advanced training

Addressing the send-off ceremony, CM stated the state government had made steps of historic proportions to fortify and update the education system. "Journey broadens knowledge and increases experience", he says, adding that such efforts would go a long way in shaping Himachal Pradesh as a model state for quality education.

The government has entered into an agreement with the world-class Principals Academy in Singapore to train Himachali teachers at par with international standards. This, Sukhu added, would be aimed at refining the knowledge, skills and pedagogy of teachers, which would have a direct impact on students and transform the education system into a more inclusive, effective and contemporary model.

My government will ensure constant and positive change in the field of education. Himachal will be the best state in the country to provide quality education by 2032," he declared.

Sukhu pointed out that the reforms brought in the last two years are already yielding encouraging outcomes. Referring to the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) published in January 2025, he said that Himachal Pradesh children exhibited the best reading skills in India. "On different parameters of education, the state has been a high performer. State surveys also indicate notable improvements in the levels of student learning", he stated.

He stressed the need to reform school curricula and suggested adding general knowledge as a subject to foster all-round development. "The state will introduce a new education policy soon in favor of overall development of students. In addition to administrative reforms, we are also making new-age efforts, such as simplifying the transfer process, to improve the overall quality of education", he further added

Education Minister Rohit Thakur, who was also there, added that thus far, 267 teachers had already been dispatched to Singapore under the programme, and the programme would be repeated in the future. He emphasized that this was not a routine trip but a visionary move towards overhauling the education system. "High-quality training will usher in fundamental improvements in the teaching-learning process", he added.

Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar apprised the CM and dignitaries on the significance of the Singapore visit and other prominent education initiatives. State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha, Rajesh Sharma, presented his findings on the innovations being implemented under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
