St. Petersburg Mining Uni and Vietnam Ink International Partnership

  • Rectors Vladimir Litvinenko of the Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University and Hai Tran Thanh of Hanoi University of Mining and Geology have entered into an agreement for international cooperation. The agreement encompasses various areas, including training personnel for the mineral resources sector, enhancing academic mobility, and boosting publication activity.

The collaboration between these two institutions holds significant promise due to their similarity in higher education focus and research domains. Their shared areas of training and research suggest that establishing joint research groups and agreements on short-term internships for students, postgraduates, and professors can be expedited.

Litvinenko emphasized the agreement's significance as a springboard for enhancing competitiveness. He highlighted mutual interest in integration, shared historical memory, and congruence in values, particularly the commitment to sovereignty, underscoring the promising prospects for their partnership.

Litvinenko announced that a Russian delegation would visit Hanoi within the next month and a half to familiarize themselves with their Vietnamese counterparts' scientific interests and study plans. This visit aims to formulate a mutually beneficial cooperation agenda. Additionally, both parties agreed to establish representative offices in each other's universities to support compatriots during international internships and coordinate academic cooperation and scientific research.

Hai Tran Thanh recalled the longstanding friendship between Russia and Vietnam, dating back to the USSR era. He expressed confidence in the partnership, emphasizing the potential benefits for all parties involved and envisioning the agreement as the beginning of a fruitful collaboration.

Last year, a concert commemorating the centenary of Ho Chi Minh's arrival in Petrograd was held at the St. Petersburg Mining University, attended by representatives of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and members of the local diaspora, including the Russian-Vietnamese Friendship Society and the Association of Vietnamese in Russia.
