SKKU and KOTITI Sign MoU for Composite Materials Research

  • At the KOTITI Testing and Research Institute in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, the Composite Materials and Structural Design Industry Technology Hub Center of our university (hereafter referred to as the Center) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KOTITI Testing and Research Institute. The agreement aims to establish a collaborative partnership for convergence research and technology development in the field of composite materials, support for industry-academia cooperation, and fostering professional talent.

    The signing ceremony was attended by key representatives, including Jaeboong Choi, Vice President of the Natural Sciences Campus, Jonghwan Suhr, Director of the Center, Sung-Min Kim and Sang-Won Lee, Professors of Mechanical Engineering, and Tae-Il Kim, Professor of Chemical and Polymer Engineering. From KOTITI, the attendees included Sang-Rak Lee, President of KOTITI, Min-Ho Choi, Vice President, Min Kim, Executive Director, Jin-Hyup Cho, Head of the Architectural and Industrial Materials Team, and Dong-Hoon Kim, Head of the Strategic Planning Team.

    Founded in 1961, KOTITI Testing and Research Institute is Korea's first textile testing organization. It provides specialized services, including research and development, testing and analysis, quality inspection, training, and consulting for consumer goods. The Pyeongtaek e-Mobility Center of KOTITI serves as a hub for testing, analysis, and research and development in automotive, future mobility, and eco-friendly advanced industries, leading various research projects to create high added value and pioneer cutting-edge industrial advancements.

    Under the MOU, the two organizations agreed to: Conduct joint academic research, Exchange personnel, and Hold technical conferences, fostering academic and educational development.

    Planned areas of cooperation include joint research and development of composite material technologies, characteristic analysis and application research of composite materials for solution development, and collaborative industry-academia research and academic activities.

    Notably, KOTITI’s Pyeongtaek e-Mobility Center aims to enhance its testing and research capabilities in the automotive and mobility sectors. It plans to expand its testing and analysis services for industrial materials and composite materials used in electric vehicles (EVs), autonomous vehicles, and eco-friendly vehicles. By doing so, the Center aims to strengthen competitiveness in the green and future automotive industries, contribute to achieving carbon neutrality, and position itself as a leader in sustainable technology development and innovation.

    Vice President Jaeboong Choi emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating, “I hope today’s collaboration becomes a crucial foundation for composite material technology innovation and talent development, leading to remarkable achievements in the future”.

    Jonghwan Suhr, Director of the Center, highlighted the synergy created by the partnership, stating, “This agreement will combine KOTITI's technical expertise with our research capabilities to generate significant synergy in the future mobility sector, considering carbon neutrality, and will serve as a pivotal moment for the advancement of domestic industries”.

    President Sang-Rak Lee expressed high expectations, saying, “Through the collaboration between the two institutions, we will realize continuous progress and new milestones, contributing to economic and regional development”.
