Shanghai Jiao Tong University hosts an International Forum on SDGs

  • Educators and officials from China and abroad gathered at Shanghai Jiao Tong University for the inaugural 2024 International Education Forum on Sustainable Development Goals. Co-organized by the university's Paris Elite Institute of Technology, National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press, the forum emphasized the importance of international collaboration in education and interdisciplinary research to realize the UN's sustainable development objectives.

    Xu Xuemin, the university's vice president, highlighted the evolving landscape of higher education characterized by interdisciplinary and cross-cultural integration, driven by advancements like artificial intelligence. Emphasizing Shanghai Jiao Tong University's commitment to comprehensiveness, innovation, and internationalism, Xu stated the institution's dedication to integrating sustainable development goals into its educational framework through global partnerships.

    In light of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, Xu expressed the university's desire for expanded collaboration with nations such as France, particularly in fields like international education, engineering, and medical talent cultivation.

    Chen Wei, deputy director of the Ministry of Education's Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, underscored the imperative for top-tier talent to support China's ambitions for developing new high-quality productivity forces. He urged universities to deepen their global partnerships to foster creative individuals with a global perspective, envisioning their role in advancing worldwide sustainability and promoting a shared future for the international community. Overall, the forum advocated for enhanced international cooperation in education and research to address global challenges and cultivate talent equipped to tackle them.
