Shanghai, Gdynia Maritime Universities Strengthen Global Ties

  • Shanghai Maritime University and Gdynia Maritime University in Poland recently celebrated four decades of cooperation, which they plan to deepen and expand exchanges in global maritime education. The cooperation began in 1984 when the universities signed an agreement covering teaching, textbooks, laboratory resources, internships, and joint research.

Since then, senior management, teachers, and students from both universities have made frequent exchanges to strengthen ties. Following the visit of Adam Weintrit, rector of the Gdynia Maritime University, to Shanghai last July, Song Baoru, Party secretary of the Shanghai Maritime University, attended an event of the 40th anniversary in Poland in December, where he expected the two sides to further expand cooperation and promote the development of global maritime education.

Together with the exchanges, experts and scholars from China and Poland have been able to share research results in lectures and find new inspirations at international forums. Since 1995, the two universities jointly carried out 15 scientific and technological cooperation projects.

Over these past four decades, the two universities have not only had more exchanges and deeper academic cooperation, but have also cultivated talent with cross-cultural awareness.

Cao Jing, currently working at the Shanghai branch of Volkswagen (China) Investment Co Ltd, graduated from the School of Logistics Engineering at Shanghai Maritime University. She has greatly benefited from her exchange study experience in Poland, where she became more motivated, was fascinated by different cultures, and embraced a wider world.

Marta Kokosza, a Polish postgraduate student from the School of Economics and Management at Shanghai Maritime University, said her exchange experience in China broadened her horizons and clarified her future career direction. Captivated by the charm of China, she is committed to being part of global trade and contributing to the communication between China and Europe.

To date, Shanghai Maritime University has established extensive cooperation with over 100 overseas universities, as well as international, companies, institutions, and maritime organizations.
