The Seria Energy Lab (SEL) Appreciation Award Ceremony 2023, held at V-Plaza Hotel's Grand Ballroom, shines as an inspiring tribute to Brunei's dedication to fostering innovation and scientific curiosity. This event commended the outstanding accomplishments of young scientists, recognizing their exceptional talent and creativity in various projects.
Dr Nur Karnina binti Karim, the Head of SEL, praised the lab as a vibrant hub welcoming science enthusiasts of all ages. SEL provides opportunities for hands-on exploration and engagement with science through interactive exhibitions and educational programs, contributing to a culture of scientific inquiry.
The ceremony began with a presentation of SEL's popular school holiday program, 'Full STEAM Ahead,' acknowledging the commitment of its volunteers. The focus then shifted to the International Science Drama Competition (ISDC) 2023 participants, who secured fourth place in the open category and the Best Actor Award upon their return from Bangkok, Thailand.
The celebration continued with the recognition of the Women in Science Competition 2023 winners, with the top prize awarded to the 'Mon-ee' project by students from the Belait Sixth Form Centre (PTEB). Other winning projects hailed from Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College and Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre (PTES).
These accolades not only acknowledged students' efforts but also highlighted SEL's crucial role in nurturing the future generation of scientists and innovators. Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, the Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education, graced the occasion as the guest of honour, underscoring the event's significance.
The ceremony concluded with Suriani binti Garip from Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd presenting awards to SEL's Top Three Outstanding Employees. This marked a fitting end to an event that celebrated both educational achievements and professional excellence, showcasing the vibrant scientific community in Brunei and SEL's pivotal role.
