Selangor government allocates RM13 million for educational initiatives

  • The Selangor government has earmarked nearly RM13 million for its education sector to support various initiatives. According to Mohamad Zahri Samingon, the deputy secretary (management) speaking on behalf of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the allocation is primarily dedicated to six key initiatives. These include RM10 million for the People's Tuition Programme (PTRS), RM1 million each for school infrastructure improvements and Internet data, RM500,000 for parent-teacher association support, RM150,000 for electronic devices, and a contribution of RM200,000 from the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) for asnaf students.

"We receive numerous school funding applications and will prioritize based on need, managing allocations on a rotational basis. Despite high demand, budget constraints must be adhered to. A significant focus of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) is advancing STEM skill development, leading to a RM1 million allocation for STEM-related programs," stated during the Tekad Pendidikan launch. Selangor STEM exploration carnival at Shah Alam Convention Centre commenced on January 29.

The carnival serves as a platform for students to exchange research findings in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), aiming to cultivate talented individuals in the research field and produce exceptional STEM projects on a global scale. This event provides students with the chance to demonstrate their skills in applying STEM subjects. With the participation of 377 students and 103 teachers, the carnival includes four competitions and 17 exhibitions, scheduled to continue until Tuesday (Jan 30).
