Saudi Arabia Inaugurates National Curriculum Center in Riyadh

  • Saudi Minister of Education Yousef Al-Benyan has declared the establishment of the National Curriculum Center during the Human Capabilities Initiative (HCI) conference in Riyadh. The center's creation, endorsed by the Council of Ministers, designates it as an independent entity, integrating the roles of government sectors in line with national goals through curriculum development.

The new center's focus lies in refining the governance of the curriculum system, incorporating relevant sectors like culture, sports, and human rights in decision-making. Additionally, it aims to forge partnerships with global expertise entities, aligning with scientific research methodologies that meet the evolving needs of new generations. Leveraging digital transformation tools and emphasizing skills development, the center seeks to empower citizens with global competence.

Operational mechanisms of the center stress the clarity of roles and responsibilities among parties involved in curriculum development. Coordination between general and post-general education curricula is pivotal, addressing the current and future market needs. Ensuring adaptability to changes and developments through continuous curriculum updates, the National Curriculum Center is governed by a board of directors approving policies, frameworks, standards, and regulations. Advisory committees of specialists provide technical support and advice.

The center's scope includes establishing curriculum standards, formulating study plans, creating both print and digital educational content, designing special education curricula, and driving research, development, and innovation in the curriculum field. Specializations undertaken by the center ensure the quality and safety of educational content for male and female students in general education. This includes strategy development for the national curriculum and approval of the national curriculum framework in coordination with the Ministry of Education, the Education Evaluation Commission, and other relevant authorities.
