The new campus of Renmin University of China (RUC), located in the Tongzhou district of southeastern Beijing, officially commenced operations on Saturday. Covering a construction area of 1.05 million square meters, the campus has completed about 500,000 square meters of buildings, enabling its independent operation.
This month, RUC's Tongzhou campus welcomed its first batch of freshmen from the School of Finance, School of Economics, and School of Applied Economics. Zhang Donggang, Party Secretary of RUC, highlighted that the planning and construction of the new campus mark a significant enhancement in the university's operational capabilities.
The university plans to gradually relocate its research institutions, academic forums, and resources to the Tongzhou campus, fostering deeper collaboration with the city and surrounding areas to create a unique academic cultural advantage. Zhang stated, "This development signifies a breakthrough in key projects of the city's sub-center and underscores the university's commitment to alleviating non-capital functions of Beijing, supporting the national strategy for coordinated development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region".
Yu Yingjie, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Beijing Municipal Committee, noted that RUC’s Tongzhou campus is the only 'Double First-Class' university in the sub-center of Beijing, positioned to drive regional development with a solid foundation and significant potential.
