RCSI Medical University of Bahrain Hosted on campus Its Annual Meeting

  • The RCSI Medical University of Bahrain convened its yearly Joint Board of Private Hospitals gathering on campus. The meeting included executives from seven major private hospitals in Bahrain, representatives from Tamkeen, the Chairman of the Society of Private Hospitals, the President of Bahrain Medical Society, and university executives. The agenda focused on collaboration in clinical training, education, and research. Among the attendees were Her Excellency Professor Jameela Al-Salman, a Shura Council Member, and Professor Mary Rose Sweeney, the Executive Vice Dean for Education at the Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery, RCSI in Dublin.

    Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, stated during the meeting: "Our university is dedicated to strengthening ties with private hospitals and Tamkeen, aiming to deliver international standards of training to medical staff. Partnering with Tamkeen is a crucial stride in improving healthcare services and ensuring the provision of primary and community care for the people of Bahrain and beyond."

    The discussions centered around possibilities for a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program designed for General Practitioners and proposed professional nursing qualifications by the University. Additionally, there was deliberation on student involvement in observerships, electives, and research at private hospitals. The meeting also addressed collaboration between private hospitals and RCSI Medical University of Bahrain concerning postgraduate training and the forthcoming Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program, the announcement of which is pending approval from the Higher Education Council.

    Discussions also touched upon the involvement of private hospitals in backing clinical training programs. An agreement was reached with Dr. Amer Alderazi, the President of Bahrain Medical Society, to present the Society's vision and plans for this collaboration in the next meeting. Professor Otoom concluded the meeting by expressing his gratitude to all board members for their dedication and support for the collaborative projects spanning the past three years.
