The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 1 has launched Project WRITES, a training series designed to strengthen public communication by equipping employees with essential media and information skills. The initiative emphasizes transparency and credibility in public messaging to foster trust with stakeholders.
During the inaugural session on February 10, April Bravo, assistant regional head of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Region 1, stressed the importance of honest, fact-based communication. She encouraged CHED employees to prioritize responsible journalism and ensure public information remains accurate, clear, and unbiased.
Project WRITES, which stands for Writing Responsibly through Information Sessions, Training, and Engagement with Stakeholders, aims to enhance communication within higher education institutions. The series began with a news writing workshop led by Bravo, focusing on crafting structured, reliable news reports that uphold government communication standards.
Experts from Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) shared best practices in digital media management and audience engagement, covering content creation, visual storytelling, and building a strong institutional identity. The training also delved into media ethics, content analytics, and strategies for audience connection, ensuring CHED Region 1's communication aligns with its institutional goals.
The program runs until March 10 and includes workshops on feature writing, publication design, photography, and video editing. These sessions aim to equip CHED personnel with the skills needed to produce engaging, credible content that effectively communicates higher education policies and programs.
Albert Subang, Education Supervisor II and a participant, highlighted the training’s value in refining CHED Region 1’s communication strategies. “These insights empower us to effectively communicate educational initiatives, engage stakeholders, and uphold institutional credibility through well-curated content”, he said.
Through Project WRITES, CHED Region 1 is reinforcing its commitment to delivering impactful, transparent public information. The initiative is set to enhance stakeholder engagement and support the region's broader efforts to advance higher education through clear and responsible communication.
