OceanX, a global nonprofit focused on ocean exploration, and Tanoto Foundation, a philanthropic organization with a commitment to education and leadership development, have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore potential collaborations in programming and ocean education opportunities in Indonesia and Singapore.
The partnership signifies Tanoto Foundation's expansion of its efforts to nurture future leaders who can positively influence the oceans and contribute to their communities. As OceanX expands its initiatives in Southeast Asia, the collaboration with Tanoto Foundation aims to engage students and educators, with a focus on providing accessible and high-quality ocean-related education. This collaboration reinforces the education-focused commitments of both organizations while fostering ocean leadership.
Mark Dalio, Founder and Co-CEO of OceanX, expressed excitement about partnering with Tanoto Foundation to bring hands-on learning experiences in ocean science, storytelling, and media production to students and educators across Indonesia and Singapore. He emphasized the importance of developing the next generation of ocean leaders in the region.
Anderson Tanoto, a member of the Board of Trustees at Tanoto Foundation, highlighted the alignment between the foundation's focus on education and OceanX's innovative approach to ocean exploration and conservation. He emphasized the shared goals of better understanding and protecting the world's oceans through education programs, particularly focusing on youth and leadership development in Singapore and Indonesia. The collaboration was facilitated through the Philanthropy Asia Alliance (PAA), demonstrating the effectiveness of collective action in achieving impact.
The partnership was solidified during the Philanthropy Asia Summit’s Impact Journey, an experiential learning session organized by the Philanthropy Asia Alliance aboard OceanXplorer, the world’s most advanced exploration vessel. Both OceanX and Tanoto Foundation are founding core members of PAA and are actively involved in its initiatives, such as the Blue Oceans Community and Holistic and Inclusive Education Community, to scale impact more effectively across geographies.
