NUS Guangzhou Research Institute Collaborates with Industry Leaders

  • The National University of Singapore Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute (NUS GRTII) recently celebrated the inauguration of its new building in Guangzhou, China, marking a significant collaboration between NUS, the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality, and the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Administrative Committee. The event was honoured by the presence of distinguished figures including NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye, Mr. Wang Guilin, Ms. Xian Yinsong, and Mr. Chen Zhiyong.

    NUS GRTII is the fourth overseas research institute established by NUS in China, following similar initiatives in Suzhou, Fuzhou, and Chongqing. Situated within the China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, NUS GRTII stands as a key initiative for NUS within the Greater Bay Area.

    The inauguration witnessed the signing of strategic collaboration agreements between NUS GRTII and 13 partners, comprising notable Singapore enterprises, Huangpu District companies, and other industry stakeholders. Among these partnerships, NUS GRTII joined forces with WeRide to delve into autonomous driving technologies, focusing on research projects in autonomous driving R&D and commercialization.

    Furthermore, NUS GRTII is set to foster entrepreneurial endeavours between Singapore and China, with plans to incubate the first batch of nine startups within its newest facilities. This strategic initiative aims to provide support for entrepreneurial ventures, facilitate technology transfer, and promote the commercialization of research innovations, ultimately benefiting Singapore, Guangzhou, and the Greater Bay Area.

    In essence, NUS GRTII’s inauguration signifies a milestone in collaborative research and innovation between Singapore and China, positioning itself as a pivotal player in driving technological advancements and fostering entrepreneurial activities within the region.
