Dr Yasser Ghanem Shaheen Secretary-General of the NIHR, received Ishraq bin Al Zain Coordinator of the Training and Education Unit at the United Nations Centre for Training and Documentation in Human Rights for Southwest Asia and the Arab Region.
Shaheen underlined the need to build up their partnership during the meeting: particularly, in human rights training and education within the United Nations mechanisms. He also emphasized his views on further developing the training programs that would allow challenges of emerging and exciting times to be addressed, which idea is very crucial for awareness raising and enhancement of skills.
Mr Al Zain gave a general overview of the activities of the UN Centre, touching also on the capacity it has to offer training, education, and documentation programs as well as human rights knowledge management efforts. Exchanged views on possible future cooperation toward training, knowledge sharing, and co-organization of workshops to introduce human rights culture in all sectors of society.
This falls in line with the training program organized by NIHR in collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bahrain. The programme focused on the human rights standards and principles for journalists and media professionals in general, which responds to one of NIHR's strategies in spreading awareness about human rights and strengthening its partnership with stakeholders and human rights defenders.
