NIE NTU Singapore Celebrates 15th Crystal Year of the Caring Teacher Awards

  • The National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NIE NTU), Singapore, in collaboration with ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, is marking the 15th edition of the Caring Teacher Awards (CTA) with a grand presentation ceremony. Scheduled for Monday, 16 September 2024, the event will take place at Dunman High School.

    This year's CTA, themed 'Instilling a Caring Culture,' has witnessed a notable 14% increase in nominations and an 8% rise in school participation. The total number of nominations surged to 12,984 from 259 schools. Supported by the Ministry of Education, the awards honor educators who have shown extraordinary dedication to the holistic development of their students. Following a thorough evaluation process, an external panel of judges has selected three National Level Award winners and seven National Commendation Award winners.

    Professor Liu Woon Chia, Director of NIE, reflected on the occasion, stating, “As we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Caring Teacher Awards, we are reminded of the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the future of our society. Their dedication and compassion inspire us all, and it is an honor to recognize their unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation”.

    The awards will be presented by Guest-of-Honour Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State for Education and Manpower. The 10 honored educators include four from Primary schools, four from Secondary schools, and two from Junior Colleges/Centralized Institutes. Among them, three will receive the National Level Award, while the remaining seven will be recognized as National Commendation Award winners.

    Ms Geraldine Chin, Chairman and Managing Director of ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, praised the event, saying, “ExxonMobil believes in the power of education and its transformative impact on students and communities. Caring teachers profoundly affect the lives of their students, and we are continually inspired by the dedication of all the nominees and winners”.

    This year’s awards underscore the continuing commitment to fostering a supportive and nurturing educational environment in Singapore.
